The picture above is from the morning of December 26th, the day after Christmas. Olivia and I were dancing to “The Wiggles” on Youtube on my computer, while my mom took an unexpected picture. It was any other day to Olivia, much like Christmas came and went in her world. This reminded me of the innocence of children at Christmas, and other holidays. The same innocence, we as adults, tend to lose sight of. Christmas is all about the spirit of giving and doing things for others, it should be a joyous time, but for some reason everyone seems to be a bit more stressed.
Olivia, much like her birthday, knew there was something special about the events surrounding Christmas, and certainly enjoyed all of the attention, but wasn’t sure why? Watching Olivia open presents quickly fills the soul with the Christmas spirit. She’s too young to ever fake her reactions to gifts like some of us have done in the past. Gifts we’d rather not have gotten followed by insincere, “Thank You’s!” Olivia displays several emotions with facial expressions to match, wearing her heart on her sleeve, everyone always knows exactly what she is thinking.
Olivia took her time and opened each present one at a time, playing with several of the presents before finishing opening the rest of her gifts. To see her truly enjoy Christmas and play with her presents the next day was truly a pleasure. Every year, I plan on spreading as much holiday cheer as possible within my means.
