This was Habitat for Humanity of Hudson County’s first comedy fundraiser, and it was a big success. The show was held at Willie McBride’s in Hoboken; sixty people attended, raising over $1,100 for Habitat, and they all had a great time. The show got off to an excellent start with Kasaun Wilson, a comic who is originally from Jersey City, and was voted Washington DC’s funniest college comedian in 2010, and was capped off with a stellar performance by Julian McCullough, who had his own Comedy Central Presents Special, and is a regular on VH1, and The Colbert Report. With this event, Habitat for Humanity of Hudson County proved that it’s possible to support local entertainers, have fun, and help fund the construction of affordable housing – all at the same time.
The show was produced by Soul Joel Productions, and was hosted by the Hoboken Social Sandbox. The Shannon and Tunes, both Hoboken-based businesses, were event sponsors, donating gift certificates that were auctioned off at the end of the show. Lindsey Davis, of NSJ Events volunteered her services as both an event organizer and marketing strategist. This show was written up on The Star Ledger’s NJ.com website, the HobokenPatch and Hoboken411.
