PROCLAMATION
Whereas: New York City has long been one of the World’s Comedy Capitals. Our inspiring comedy scene is a fertile incubator for aspiring comics and hilarious sitcoms, and no one would dispute that everyday New Yorkers- as well as their Mayor- Also Know a thing or two about humor. That’s why we’re proud to commemorate the 4th Annual Staten Island Comedy Festival.
Whereas: Organized and produced by Soul Joel Productions, this exciting event brings local comedians, newcomers and professionals to the stages of Staten Island to perform their best bits for our discerning New York audiences. For seven nights, comics will perform at venues throughout Staten Island, highlighting comedic talent from both this borough and across the country. Not only does this festival have people rolling in the aisles, but it also makes a significant contribution to Staten Island’s cultural and economic life, which is certainly no laughing matter!
Whereas: In addition to bringing laughter to all attendees, the Staten Island Comedy Festival will also contribute proceeds to Lifestyles For The Disabled, an organization that provides exceptional programming to adults with developmental delays. With this in mind, I urge all New Yorkers to attend one of the festival’s terrific shows over the next week to both tickle your funny bone and give make to a good cause! Please accept my best wishes for an exciting and amusing festival!
Now therefore, I, Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of The City of New York, do hereby proclaim June 19th-25th, 2011 in the City of New York as: “Staten Island Comedy Festival Week.”
