Dave and Eric?



The past 2 weeks prior to The Comedy Point’s live broadcast I refrained from drinking any caffeinated beverage. Instead, I chose to drink Vitamin Water with a much calmer on-air demeanor, as a result both weeks. Rich, made immediate mention of the noticeable change in my behavior upon entering the car. Being a high strung individual, he asked to what do I attribute the change? I do believe it is more than just the lack of caffeine in my system, but that is certainly a major contributor.

Radio is new craft that I am undertaking and although I have prior radio experience, I am the voice of the show. Comparing it to the game of basketball, I am in fact the point guard, setting up the the rest of the crew or guests throughout the show. Attaining the audience attention requires high energy, as the listeners have to remain engaged by simply by our dialogue, voices, and sound effects. As opposed to live stand-up comedy, where the performer has the ability to use facial expressions with body language of movement with the audience in the same room.

On caffeine, my mind is constantly feeling the rush of remaining high energy. The quest for a pre-game beverage may be over, if next week’s show goes well on Vitamin, as it will be three successful shows in a row. My co-host Rich, Eric Miller the producer, and our in studio guest, must feed off my energy. If I am too hyper and strung out on caffeine it’s a completely different tone for the show. Rich never really minded my out bursts, he was just afraid of confrontation, as he feared it would eventually come to blows. I’m not sure if he was kidding, but fist fighting in studio, wouldn’t make for good radio on The Comedy Point.

Lastly, having Burak Uzun, the head writer of The Comedy Point back from his trip to Japan has certainly put my mind at ease. Receiving the detailed production sheet prior to the show, allows us to speak freely on the show, while remaining organized. Coffee and Diet Mountain Dew have officially been labeled off limits at any point prior to the show. What will next week bring? Tune in to find out….Thanks always for your support.

Remember the way Monday Night Football seemed late when you had school the next morning and you were never able to stay up for the 4th quarter but you can hear Frank Gifford and Dan Dierdorf in your dreams

Remember when they actually had normal Saturday Morning Cartoons

Remember when the only way you could watch porno was if you had your fathers password for the Illegal Cable

Remember when you would get in trouble in elementary school for walking after the whistle was blown and they put you on the wall, how dumb was that

Remember Saved by The Bell, good show

Remember when they Changed Moms on Fresh Prince of Bel Air, that was strange

I think everyone and anyone is a fan of Greenday; and even if you are not a fan, you have definitely enjoyed at least 2-4 of their songs. In this generation of drugs,sex and rock and roll, Green Day has been able to separate the first two and let the rock and roll be in the forefront for the last twenty years.

I have been to many Green Day Concerts and they know how to kill a live show, always getting the crowd involved. When Green Day came to my school 4 years ago I remember they had a session of the show where they would pick someone from the audience and have them come on stage to play bass in one of the songs of the show. I found this amazing and right then I knew I would go to any show I could that Green Day would play at in my area

So one of the coolest things in a long time has happened…Green Day is coming to Broadway. This is crazy, I havent been this happy since the Lion King on Bway….The show is not set to be just a Green Day Concert on Broadway but a adapted story with the American Idiot Album. I m getting my ticket as soon as I can

I have to say I am very excited about the new station. For those of you that tuned it you can see the first week was a little hectic but tons of fun none the less. The new station provides us a lot of freedom to expand the point we are trying to get out there.One upsetting thing for me is that I am no longer the “Man Behind the Glass” because frankly the new station is set up a little differently. However I am now more in the action which would create for interesting fun and drama but always a good time

The fact that the great weather is coming and the station reaches the Jersey Shore, I know Joel and all of us have big plans to reach out and have some fun promotions all over the Jersey sea line( I came up with “sea line” because I thought saying the Jersey Shore twice was in bad taste/grammar)

So I want to thank the loyal fans who are moving from our old station with us and looking forward to hearing from all the new fans who want to me part of the Comedy Point brouhaha- (Spent 10 minutes thinking of a word to use)

Our first night in studio at The Comedy Point’s new home WIFI 1460 AM, Burlington County’s only radio station. The debut was filled with transitional mistakes, as we settle into to our new home. The last few weeks at WTBQ we were bombarded with surprise phone calls from our fans, so the biggest challenge was spreading the word of the new phone number.

Continuing my quest for the perfect blend of calming my nerves and caffeine remedy, I drank Green Tea for the first time before the show. Thankfully, with all of the obstacles we had to overcome, Green Tea does have a very calming effect on me and I was hyped up like the previous weeks on Diet Mountain Dew and Coffee. Green Tea with honey and lemon might be the key to my success.

The other problem I have to avoid is not eating prior to the show. I’m not sure if it’s my prior engagement with wrestling and starving myself to make weight, but I have a harder time functioning on an empty stomach. My tolerance drops and ability to handle chaos is minimal. I say chaos because I deal with everything from scheduling the show itself, picking up the crew, and executing the show, which all require time management and attention to detail. This all coming while head writer Burak Uzun is away in Japan.

All in all the show was fun and a good starting point for our first show at the new station. It wasn’t perfect, but it gives us something to build upon. I look forward to many more shows at WIFI 1460 and seeing where the next chapter of The Comedy Point will take us.

Prior to this week’s show, I had 1 Diet Mountain Dew, but had another one on deck, as Quick Check had them on sale, “2 for $2.” The problem with Mountain Dew, regardless if diet or regular, is that each serving equates to 1.5x that of a cup of coffee. Again, I found myself racing my thoughts, not finishing sentences, and often found myself talking in the wrong tense. I’m no Rich Shultis, but on caffeine I’m not certain that one would be able to tell the difference between us.

The better move looking back, would be to have starting drinking water during the show, instead of polishing off both Diet Mountain Dews. Thus, I had the equivalent of three cups of coffee. This coming from a person, four months ago wasn’t even drinking coffee. Next week, I will be drinking green tea in hopes of finding the perfect solution to my pre-show rituals.

This past Saturday I was an attendee of the Hoboken St Patricks Day Pardade. I know some of you may be thinking..Isn’t St Patricks day March 17th?.. well yes it is But March 6th is a day for Hoboken to celebrate its history, achievements, parade down their one mile long street, people of Irish culture to celebrate their holiday a little bit early and every one and everyone to get completely wasted. The things I saw this day were bizarre and outrageous to say the least

Remeber that game Dizzy Izzy, where you would spin you around on a baseball bat and then try, key word try to run in a straight line to the the other side to win the race. Well I have suspicions many people on this day were playing this game or just drinking numerous shots of alcohol. I saw one guy in front of me stumble for about a good 8 inches then plant right on his ass to the ground. On second thought maybe I should have tried to help him but we make decisions in life and often have to live with them

Some may see it as a blessing some may see it as a curse but this was the best day of the year weather wise so far, which I have a feeling led to much more havoc and ratio of people with shirts on to shirts off if the weather was just a bit colder

Hoboken enacted a rule that any type of breaking the law would result in a 2000 fine including Jaywalking, Public Urination,Disorderly Conduct and I don’t think they have this in the law book but trying to make love to a stop sign. Yes I saw a intoxicated gentleman expressing his love for that Octagonal beauty.

I must say this was quite a day, filled with love for ones heritage and love for ones beer. All in all I say the Hoboken Parade was quite a success. The weather was great, no one got too hurt for the most part I think and yes the trains were packed and it took 2 hours just to leave this micro city. I all urge you to attend the 2011 Hoboken Sh*t show… Parade next year
